Space, Place,Experience.

What begins as space becomes a place as we becomemore acquainted with it. From the security and stability of the place, weperceive the freedom or threat of the space. A place acquires a specificreality when our experience becomes comprehensive, with our senses contributingto it. The place is an organized world of meaning, a static concept.

Traces

Cracks that testify to the passage of time. Figuresthat appear and disappear in light and shadow. Reflections that testify that wewere there too. Everything is traces inherited by the city.

The analysis of these concepts guided us towardsthe conception of the central idea, the concept of the familiar - unfamiliar, and its representation in the showcases of the Attica department store. Webegan designing the showcases, placing black-and-white depictions of the cityon panels at the back. Then, we incorporated monoliths and glass surfaces inshades of purple to create a sense of spatiality. The sandblasted glass we usedserves the concept of the unfamiliar, the central idea. The main lighting wasembedded in the floor, following a different arrangement in each showcase, according to the design requirements. Finally, a primary concern was to avoidthe superfluous. Creating compositions where each material harmoniouslyinteracts with the other. The presence of one demanding the presence of theother. A design on the verge of interdependence.
